Brian and Fina came in to talk to me about the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Council of Los Angeles which will be holding its second annual Camper by Camper Gala on February 28 to help send more than 1,000 children, ages 7-13, to summer camp this year.

Dodger Hall of Fame broadcaster
Jaime Jarrin and comedian
Paul Rodriguez will be honored for their work in the community. The event will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills. A couple of the auction items include autographed basketballs by L.A. Laker Kobe Bryant and legendary UCLA coach John Wooden. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is largely a volunteer-based organization with more than 1,800 ‘Vincentian’ volunteers serving the counties of Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Ventura, as well as portions of the Inland Empire. These individuals (professional business people, retires, students, etc.) help improve the quality of life for thousands of children, women and men each year through home visits and other means.

Surf City USA® Marathon – Kids’ Fun Run
Amy spoke to us about the purpose of the Surf City USA® Marathon which is to create unique experiences that inspire lifelong activity. This if for kids to have fun and a sense of accomplishment in a healthy activity. Some unique elements of the event include: Surfboard Finisher Medals (all finishers receive a medal); Cool tshirts; Healthy finish line snack; Huntington Beach City Council hands out the medals at the finish line; Surf Music is played at the start and finish. A Snail’s Pace Running Club holds “running practices” for kids in the Boys and Girls Club in Huntington Beach in the months leading up to the event, to help develop the habit of being active. This also helps kids see that running can be fun and you can do it just about anywhere.
